About Interstate Hotels The Boca Raton Marriott is proud to belong the family of hotels operated by Interstate Hotels. Interstate Hotels, headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was founded in 1961 by Milton Fine and the late Edward Perlow. Mr. Fine continues to serve as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer. In 1961, Interstate acquired its first property - the Capri Motel in Erie, Pennsylvania. From 1962 to 1969, Interstate developed four successful Howard Johnson Motor Lodges along the Pennsylvania Turnpike, and operated them until the early 1980's. Interstate became affiliated with Marriott Hotels and Resorts in the 1970's, when the company opened the Pittsburgh Green Tree Marriott. My 1979, Interstate had developed and was operating four Marriott Hotels in four states. Today, Interstate is by far the largest franchisee in the Marriott Hotel system. By 1990, Interstate was managing 39 hotels in 20 states, including Marriotts, Hiltons, Sheratons, Radissons, and several independent hotels and resorts. In August 1991, Interstate was named the largest hotel management company by Lodging Hospitality magazine. In 1993, Interstate was named the number one company in total hotel sales of managed properties by both Hotel& Motel Management magazine and Hotel Business magazine.
